Our response to recent news that suicide rates in England and Wales are at their highest level since 1999.
Jane Boland, Clinical Lead at James’ Place said: “It is very worrying that suicide rates are the highest they have been for 25 years and shows just how critical our work is at James’ Place, offering free life-saving therapy to suicidal men in the North East, North West and London. Every suicide is preventable with the right help and there is an urgent need for appropriate, well-resourced, easy to access and tailored support across the country. Our centres, particularly in Liverpool and Newcastle, are extremely busy and we have recently recruited extra therapists to meet demand. We know what we do works and is needed more than ever, so we plan to expand further and open more centres across the country to help more men in suicidal crisis. As an independent charity we need help to raise the funds needed to open these centres, enabling us to stop more men dying by suicide.”
