Get support
We know that it can be very difficult to ask for help, and sometimes talking about thoughts of suicide can be a barrier to accessing services.
We provide free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men through a quick, safe and effective intervention that is available at the point of crisis in our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.
Together with our trained, professional therapists, we can help you understand how you got to the point of suicidal crisis, what is keeping the crisis going and importantly learn new ways of coping that will help if a similar set of circumstances arises in the future.
Who we help
At James’ Place, we work with men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis. By this, we mean that you might be experiencing intense and distressing suicidal thoughts, perhaps feelings of hopelessness and despair, and you may have made plans or intend to act on your suicidal thoughts. You may have tried to hurt or kill yourself.
Our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle support men from the surrounding areas who have self-referred or been referred by a professional including those working in health and community services, or by a friend or family member.
We can help men (and those who identify as male) age 18 + who:
- live in London and the surrounding area, the North East, or the North West
- are experiencing a suicidal crisis
- are willing and able to engage in talking therapy
- are registered with a GP – or eligible for registration
- have access to stable accommodation for the duration of their treatment
Request an assessment at James’ Place
You can refer yourself or a man you know, and we also accept referrals from GPs, mental health practitioners, and other voluntary organisations across the North East, North West and Greater London. If you feel our treatment might be beneficial, please request an assessment by clicking the above referral form link. If you do not have access to an electronic device or need assistance filling out the referral form, please call us.
A member of our team will get in touch with you as soon as possible and within 24 hours during working days.
We’ll invite you in for a first meeting within 48 hours. You’ll come to one of our safe and welcoming centres for a cup of tea or coffee, and a chance to chat through your situation with a therapist and decide whether our treatment is right for you.
If you decide to take the treatment forward you will see the same therapist every week for typically 6-8 sessions. The therapist will work closely with you to keep you safe, understanding what it feels like to be in a suicidal crisis, how you got to this point, what keeps it going and how to get through it.
