Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting has announced plans for a Men’s Health Strategy.
The strategy will consider how to prevent and tackle the biggest health problems affecting men of all ages, which could include cardiovascular disease, prostate cancer and testicular cancer, as well as mental health and suicide prevention. It will form a key part of the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan to fix the NHS.
Ellen O’Donoghue, Chief Executive of James’ Place said: “We very much support the introduction of a men’s health strategy looking at the particular health challenges that men face. Three quarters of all deaths by suicide are men, with middle aged men most at risk. It is vital we address this as a society, tackling the issues that drive men to suicide, and removing barriers to them accessing help. We are looking forward to sharing our knowledge on what works in male suicide prevention, and hope the strategy makes a real difference to men, and their loved ones, across the country.”
