James’ Place is proud to announce our new student outreach programme, working together with London universities to provide our service to male students in a suicidal crisis.
We’re aware that university life brings a unique set of challenges which can impact students in different ways. James’ Place seeks to offer further support to the challenges faced by students and student services in all of our partnered universities.
If you are a student at university and are thinking about suicide, or you’re concerned for someone who you feel might be, we are here to help. We believe every suicide is preventable and men experiencing a suicidal crisis can find hope for the future using our intervention.
James’ Place offers brief, intensive talking-therapy to men experiencing suicidal crisis delivered free of charge by trained therapists in a welcome and friendly environment.
Once someone has made contact, we will aim to welcome them for an initial assessment with one of our trained therapists within two working days.
If accepted, our intervention will be offered. We work quickly to get someone to a place of resolution. We will complete a safety plan and implement mechanisms which allow men to find hope for the future.
Students will be able to self-refer to the programme directly by completing the form via the link at the top of the page. Referrals can also be made by student wellbeing and counselling services. This applies to referrals made on behalf of someone else, visit our get support page to find out more information.
Because we work with men at the stage of acute crisis, we will ask for name, address, Date of Birth and GP details, and we encourage telling a trusted supported in the form of a friend or family member that you’re undertaking our intervention.
If you have any questions around the programme, you can contact us on london@jamesplace.org.uk or by telephone on 020 3488 8404. We are available by email and phone Monday to Friday, 9.30am – 5.30pm (excluding bank holidays).
