Bailey's story
James' Place
05/09/23
“I first attempted suicide in April 2022 – I’d had a fallout with a friend, things weren’t working out at my new job and my thoughts just spiralled out of control. I went on antidepressants and had some therapy but then in January 2023 my mental health dipped and I once again became suicidal.
My family were worried about me and found James’ Place online. Having previously been for an assessment at a mental health hospital, which was pretty traumatic, I was nervous about going but I needn’t have been. It was so different. I found the therapy really helpful, it made me think about things differently and the cards that were used were really good in helping me explain what I was feeling to my family and my girlfriend.
My therapist struck just the right balance between making me feel comfortable and then probing a bit deeper with his questions. After six weeks of treatment I felt in a good enough place to move on, and now a few months later I’m feeling mentally strong enough to get back to work.
I do sometimes worry about the future but I now feel much more confident that I would be able to get myself out of a dark place and ask for help. I wish I’d been to James’ Place after my first attempt as I might not have got so low again.”
